Pride Month Employee Spotlight: Marcos Mancha
To celebrate Pride Month in June, Zynga is highlighting employees from our LGBTQIA2S+ community who are championing diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. We embrace the history, struggles and achievements the LGBTQIA2S+ community has made in advancing equal rights, and are proud to support a culture where everyone can be their authentic selves. Join us as we ask our incredible employees to share what it means to #PlayWithPride.
We’re kicking off our celebration by spotlighting Marcos Mancha, Lead Licensing Producer and Co-chair of our Zynga Pride Employee Resource Group. Read on to learn more about Marcos, what Pride means to him, and why he believes sharing stories with each other can lead to a more compassionate world.
What does Pride mean to you?
The Pride movement has given me permission to be the most authentic and best version of myself. Our Pride community has empowered me to accept and find peace with the parts of myself that I tried to hide for so long! Now, these parts are some of my favorite qualities!
When was the moment you knew? The moment that everything sort of crystallized?
The moment I finally allowed myself to pursue a boy crush was the moment I realized that everything I had been taught was a lie! I was determined to allow myself the freedom to explore this lifetime without fear or limitations. From that day forward, I took control of my own narrative and never let anyone else put boundaries on my happiness.
What are some ways we can help foster an inclusive environment so that everyone can bring their authentic selves to work? Why is this important?
Everyone has a story, so tell me everything! We all struggle with fears and seek love and validation. There is so much we could learn from one another if we just stopped, asked questions and listened earnestly. The type of stories people keep inside and how much we really have in common would amaze you. Once you find a deep connection with someone, it allows you to foster vulnerability and create magic. That magic connection with our co-workers translates to the work that we all produce together and can ultimately reach all of our players. That feeling of inclusivity is a basic need we have all wanted since we first set foot on a playground.
What positive policies or actions have you seen at Zynga that help promote equity in the workplace?
Our leadership at Zynga has always empowered and supported our zPride employee resource group (ERG) and all of the initiatives our community believes in. When support like that comes from the very top, it sends a strong message that diversity, equality and inclusion are a fundamental part of our culture and moral compass as a company. This type of leadership fosters a work environment that is much more than just a job, it’s a place that I can call my second home!
How can people be good allies in the workplace and beyond? What are some ways for people to educate themselves?
Compassion doesn’t cost a thing. Be kind and respectful to others and do not tolerate anything less. If you see something, say something, and start a meaningful, productive dialog.
What is a LGBTQIA2S+ movie, tv show, book, or game you think is a “must”?
I just finished watching “Heartstopper” on Netflix and I still have butterflies in my stomach.
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
It gets so much better! Keep moving forward and don’t let fear, intolerance or judgment have any control on your life. Your path is yours alone and let love light the way!
